Giving medicine on time is easier with a routine and a gentle reminder. Here is how to set both up, and what to do when you miss a dose.
This guide is general information. It does not replace advice from your veterinarian.
Know the plan
Write down the name, the amount, how often and for how long. Ask whether it should be given with food. Keep the plan where everyone who gives medicine can see it.
Attach it to a routine
Medicine sticks best when it follows something you already do, like breakfast. A reminder helps on the days that are not routine.
If you miss a dose
Do not double up on your own. Call your vet or the clinic, tell them which medicine and how long ago, and follow what they say.
Questions for your vet
- What do I do if we miss a dose?
- Should it be given with food?
- Which side effects should I watch for?
