A few minutes of preparation make the visit calmer and the answers better. Here is a short checklist, and the summary vets like to see.

This guide is general information. It does not replace advice from your veterinarian.

The checklist

  • Vaccination dates, and any papers you have
  • Current medicine, with doses and since when
  • Allergies and conditions
  • Recent weight
  • A list of what you have noticed, with dates
  • Your questions, written down

One page beats a pile of papers

Vets read quickly. A one-page summary with the pet’s details, medicine, vaccines, weight and recent visits answers most first questions before they are asked.

Keep the dates in one place

Keepie reminds you when a booster is due.

Write down what you noticed

“Itching, moderate, after dinner, since Monday” is more useful than “itchy lately”. Note when it started, how often and what changed. A day without a note is unknown, not symptom free.

Questions for your vet

  • What do you think is going on, and what else could it be?
  • What should I watch for at home?
  • When should we come back?
