Families, partners and sitters all look after the same pet. A few small agreements keep care steady and everyone calm.
This guide is general information. It does not replace advice from your veterinarian.
Agree who does what
Say out loud who walks in the morning, who feeds in the evening and who calls the vet. It does not need to be fixed forever; it needs to be clear this week.
Make handover easy
When a sitter or relative takes over, give them the same few things every time:
- The routine: meals, walks and medicine, with times.
- Allergies and anything the pet should not eat.
- Your vet’s name and phone number.
- What is normal for your pet, and what would worry you.
Share what was done, not just what is planned
A list of what was already done stops double feeding and missed medicine. A short note helps too: “ate less at lunch”, “limped a little after the walk”.
Questions to ask yourselves
- Does everyone know where to see what was done today?
- Who can see health records, and who does not need to?
- What happens when one of us is away?
